Middle TN Flood 2010

The waters have receded, relief efforts continue, and recovery efforts have begun.

There are numerous volunteer opportunities that exist around Middle Tennessee as we begin to recover from the flood. Some of the needs are listed below. You may contact any of these directly and jump in to help.

Continue to pray for those who are affected. The real work is just now beginning.

VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES AND NEEDS:

THE BRAGDONS

Kris and Jeremiah, along with their 2 boys, were hit very hard by the flood. As their church family, it is our honor to be a part of the recovery process. They have just signed on a lease on a house to rent and will be moving in this Sunday, June 13. To make this whole ordeal even more challenging, Jeremiah has 2 herniated disks - so we need to step in and help them with this move! Please click here to email Becky Yates for more information. We need pickup trucks, willing hands, and strong backs. Also, we are looking for someone who can go to Watertown on Sunday and pick up a refrigerator for them to use. We will meet at their flood-damaged house after worship on Sunday. Email for directions if you can help!

DODSON CHAPEL UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

On May 29, a crew from PUMC went to Dodson Chapel UMC to clean up the playground for their Child Care facility. It required pressure-washing the equipment and spreading mulch - a lot of mulch. Regulations require mulch to be 6" deep with a fall zone perimeter of 6' of mulch. Here are some pictures from the clean up.

UNITED WAY OF WILSON COUNTY

From John McMillan, president of United Way of Wilson County: Prime Outlets Mall is donating approximately 4,000 square feet of storage space to set up a temporary drop-off for recovery items. The space will also function as a supply center for flood victims. They need to enlist as many volunteers as possible for shifts to check goods in and sign items out. The details will be worked out as we go along, but for now, we simply need people to say they are willing to volunteer for some shifts. Click here to email John and volunteer: jmunitedway@bellsouth.net or call at 615.443.1871

GRACE UNITED METHODIST CHURCH

Grace UMC in Mt. Juliet is collecting empty boxes for those who need help packing their belongings. You can drop your boxes off at the covered porch area on the side of the church that faces the street (there will be a big sign). Please tear down the boxes. They also need donations of box tape, tape guns, and box cutters. The other need is for drivers to help deliver boxes to flood victims. To help, contact Lee Ann Cochran.
